What does renouncing ownership actually do?
It sets the contract's owner to the zero address and, on Arctools tokens, permanently disables every administrative function. After that transaction no address on any chain can change taxes, mint new supply, alter limits, add exemptions or blacklist a wallet. The contract becomes fully immutable.
Is renouncing ownership reversible?
No. That is precisely what makes it a meaningful signal. A renounce that could be undone would prove nothing, so the capability is removed at the contract level rather than promised at the social level.
Should I revoke ownership before or after launching liquidity?
Do your configuration first. Set the final tax rates, the fee recipients, the wallet limits and the pool exemptions, then create the pool, then renounce. If you revoke before setting up the pool exemption, the pool will pay tax forever with no way to fix it.
Will renouncing ownership break my token?
No. Trading, transfers, allowances and pool interactions are unaffected. Only the owner-only functions stop working, and those are administrative by definition. Holders can continue to transfer and trade exactly as before.
Does my token still show as a rug risk after renouncing?
Renouncing removes the ownership-related warnings that scanners raise, but it does not address liquidity. If the pool can still be withdrawn, the token still carries that risk. Combine a renounce with locking or burning the LP tokens for a clean result.
Can I renounce ownership of a token that is not an Arctools launch?
Yes, as long as the contract exposes a standard owner and renounce function. The tool detects Ownable-style interfaces used by most ERC-20 and ERC-721 contracts on Arc. If a contract has no owner role at all there is nothing to revoke, and the tool will say so instead of offering a transaction.
